Have you ever had an idea for something new—maybe a product that would make life easier, a business you'd love to start, or a creative solution no one's thought of yet? Entrepreneurs are the people who turn those ideas into reality. They design products, start companies, solve problems, and often change the way people live and work. It takes courage, creativity, and determination to build something from the ground up—but every big business started with a single idea and someone brave enough to chase it. The best part is that you don't have to wait until you're an adult to be an entrepreneur; kids can be entrepreneurs too!
Real-Life Kid Entrepreneur:
When Jahkil Jackson was just 8 years old, he wanted to help people experiencing homelessness in his city. So, he started "Project I Am," an organization that creates and hands out "Blessing Bags" filled with toiletries, snacks, socks, and other essentials to those in need. What began as a small idea has grown into a nationwide movement, with thousands of bags distributed and volunteers from around the world joining in. Jahkil shows that you don't have to be a grown-up to make a big difference—with passion, compassion, and creativity, even a kid can change lives.

Entrepreneurship can look different for everyone — it’s not always about inventing a new product or starting a big company. Sometimes it’s about finding ways to use your talents to help others, solve problems, and build a life you love. That’s exactly what Kay has done. She’s combined her passions for teaching, writing, and helping people into a career that fits around her priorities of faith, family, and work. As an independent beauty consultant, tutor, and self-published author, Kay shows that entrepreneurship can grow and change as you do — and that with creativity and determination, you can build something uniquely your own.

Favorite Sonlight Product/Book: The History / Bible / Literature programs!
Homeschooling?: Yes, her child is starting their second year with Sonlight!
Why She Became Interested in This Job: Kay has always loved helping others and teaching them, whether it be about skin care and glamour or an academic subject. One of her greatest joys comes from serving others, and for as long as she can remember, she has loved volunteering with church, school, or civic groups. Teaching seemed like a natural fit for this interest, and she had been a teacher for 11 years before transitioning to homeschooling.
She has also always loved to write and has been passionate about expressing herself creatively through writing since she was a small child. From participating in an elementary school short story and essay contest to today, her love of writing never stopped, and in 2018, she started a blog and then later discovered self-publishing and thought, "If other people can do it, I can too!"
Favorite Part of the Job: As an independent contractor and entrepreneur, Kay can conduct her business in accordance with her priorities: faith, family, and career in that order. She loves getting to be around people and helping them with their unique needs.
Least Favorite Part of the Job: The organization part can be challenging. As her own boss, she has to be skilled at a lot of tasks, including ones that may not be her strong suit.
