Veterinarian
Veterinarians
You already know that vets take care of sick pets...but did you know their job is a little like being a detective? Animals can't tell vets what hurts, so they have to look for clues—checking symptoms, running tests, and carefully observing every detail to figure out what's wrong. And veterinarians don't just help cats and dogs, they care for farm animals, zoo creatures, and even injured wildlife.

Veterinarians can also work in:
🔎 Research laboratories
📑 Academic Institutions
⚕️ Animal Shelters
🏛️ Animal disease control

Parent Note: Today's podcast episode mentions that veterinarians make $50,000 and $86,000 per year, however, those numbers are incorrect. The current salary ranges from $84,000 to $207,000 with the average being around $132,000.

Sonlight Community Career Spotlight
While today's podcast featured veterinarians, there are many other animal-related careers. In today's Sonlight Community Spotlight, you'll meet Gillian, a Sonlight parent, dog breeder, and puppy raiser. A dog breeder carefully breeds and raises dogs to maintain or improve specific traits in a breed, and a puppy raiser volunteers to care for and train puppies to prepare them for future service work or companionship.  Breeders often work with veterinarians to make sure each puppy gets proper pet care, such as vaccines before going to their forever home.

Her Advice for Those Interested in This Career:  "If you are interested in this career, I suggest attending a dog show to explore the various dog breeds. Then I would hang out with dogs, either someone you know or a shelter. I would then find a very responsible and reputable AKC breeder to talk with and experience a few days with."

Her Advice to All Learners: "Jesus called me to raise puppies as a light to other families and to share how we are different from many in this world. Go where He calls you, and your work will be as rewarding as mine as you shine His light for others to see!"
