Stay at Home Mom

What if your job was to help shape someone's future—teaching, caring for, and cheering them on every single day? Every parent has an important role in helping their children grow into who God made them to be. Some parents teach at home full-time, while others balance work, family, and learning in different ways—but all are guiding their children’s education in meaningful ways. Homeschooling parents plan lessons, manage busy days, and turn ordinary moments into lifelong learning experiences. Whether it’s reading together on the couch, exploring science in the kitchen, or talking about God’s world during family time, shaping young hearts and minds is one of the most rewarding callings there is.

Sonlight Community Career Spotlight
Today’s career presenters are all stay-at-home moms and homemakers who homeschool!  Every day they use a mix of creativity, organization, and love to help their families learn and grow.

They use math to bake yummy treats, plan meals, shop wisely, and keep track of the family’s budget. They use reading and writing to teach their kids, read stories together, and guide them as they learn about the world around them. From science experiments bubbling in the kitchen to history lessons told through great books, they turn everyday moments into learning adventures.

Being a homemaker takes heart, problem-solving, and imagination; it’s a big job that uses all kinds of skills to make home a place where learning happens all day long.

Rachel

Stay-at-Home Mom – 13 Years

She was drawn to being a stay-at-home parent, because she (and her husband) “saw the value and positive benefit not only for the kids but also for the marriage relationship of having one stay-at-home parent.”

Favorite Sonlight Product/Book: Sonlight All-Subjects Package: Level F

Homeschooling: Yes! She has 6 kids, 5 of whom are currently homeschooling. “In two years, when our youngest is old enough, I plan to homeschool all 6 of them with Sonlight.”

Favorite Part of the Job: She loves that she has an “irreplaceable role in her husband's and our kids' lives. No one else can be her; the supermom her or the not-so-perfect her. There's nothing in this world that can steal her position. Even when her kids decide to leave home, she will always be their mother.”

Advice to Aspiring Stay-at-Home Parents: “My advice would be to stop listening to people who tell you that you shouldn't or can't be a stay-at-home parent. My husband and I work as a team to make it possible for us.”

Emily

Homemaker – 17 Years

She has “always wanted to be a stay-at-home mom and homeschool her kids.” In high school, she “even wrote a persuasive essay on homeschooling!”

Favorite Sonlight Product/Book: Adventures with Waffle

Homeschooling: Yes, 3 kids!

Favorite Part of the Job: She enjoys making her house a home and “watching her children become who God made them to be.”

Advice to Future Homemakers: Her advice comes from something a homeschool mom of 10 told her years ago: “1. Don’t go into debt and 2. Enjoy college—it is the last time you will have to be truly selfish!”

Jasey

Homemaker – 17 Years

She was drawn to this role because she believes in “family first,” and she values “not missing any of [her kids’] firsts while getting to be their primary teacher.”

Homeschooling?: Yes!

Favorite Part of the Job: She loves getting to see her kids “learn something new” and know that she’s “the one who taught them” these new skills.

Advice to Future Homemakers: “Just do what is right for you and your family. Don’t let what others say bother you. Everyone has an opinion, but until they actually see or do what you do on a daily basis, they won’t understand.”
